Can I connect the similar battery packs in series or in parallel?
The anwer is "No".
Each battery pack will have a BMS to manage this battery pack. They will have an internal electronic management system. If the battery packs connected in series, the high voltage will damage the components to of the BMS and destroyed the BMS. So that the BMS can not protect the battery again.
If connect the battery packs in parrallel, it will not cause so serious problem. But the biggest problem is the accordance of the battery packs.
Each BMS can balance the cells who is inside the system. The battery packs can not do balancing each other because they have different BMS and different system. when one battery pack discharge very quickly and completed discharge, but the other packs still have capacity which will have higher output. That will hurt the battery packs.
The above is for discharging. if for charging, connect the battery packs in parallel, it will not full charge the battery packs. If one pack get full charge, the charger will stop woking. And the other packs can not be full charge again.
